Avalon’s Waketoon Surf Series Pontoon Named One of Boating Industry’s Top Products of the Year

Alma, Mich. – May 1, 2020 – Boating Industry, the monthly U.S. boating business magazine, has listed the new Waketoon Surf Series Pontoon from Avalon & Tahoe Manufacturing among the top new products of the year. The versatile boat combines the most sought-after benefits of both a high-performance pontoon boat and the increasingly popular wakesurf boats into one exciting combination watercraft.

The top 50 boating products, which appeared in the May issue of Boating Industry, were chosen by the magazine’s editors based on their impact on the industry, innovation and how they advanced their category.

“We’ve seen a few different styles of pontoons push to appeal to the surf crowd over the past couple of years especially. The new Waketoon from Avalon takes things to a whole new level. From first glance to an in-depth walkthrough it’s very clear that no detail went unchecked, resulting in a beautiful boat that’s sure to impress anyone looking for a vessel to do it all,” said Adam Quandt, managing editor of Boating Industry.

What differentiates this unique craft is a new patent-pending pontoon design with an integrated rocker and shaper, along with contoured wake plates to enable desirable waterflow. There is no heavy ballast tank system, which leads to improved overall handling and the elimination of a time-consuming fill-and-drain process. The boat also offers the capability for tandem wakesurfing on both sides of the wake, instead of the ability to only surf together on the same side.

It is the first pontoon boat combined with the award-winning Volvo Penta Forward Drive, designed with forward-facing dual counter-rotating props under the boat with an adjustable-tilt drive. The innovative drive has earned recognition for superior fuel economy, speed, range, acceleration and maneuverability in thousands of boats on the market today. The boat also integrates Volvo Penta’s lightweight, high-performance next-generation gasoline engines which are designed for simple serviceability.

The Waketoon Surf Series was also selected for an NMMA Innovation Award at the 2020 Minneapolis Boat Show by a panel of judges from Boating Writers International.

“We’ve seen tremendous interest in the Waketoon Surf Series since its launch, and that’s no surprise to us given the cross-generational appeal in this design that combines the convenience of a pontoon with the ability to wakesurf,” said Jim Wolf, president of Avalon & Tahoe Manufacturing. “A clear secret to the success on this project was collaboration with Volvo Penta and integration of the company’s innovative Forward Drive.”
